Visas
All visitors are required a valid passport. EU citizens are entitled to visit Bulgaria without a visa for 90 days within a period of 6 months. Citizens of the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA are entitled to enter without a visa for 30 days within a period of 6 months.
Other visitors should check on entry terms and conditions at the Bulgarian embassy or consulate in their corresponding countries.
Seasons
The best time to travel on a wine trip in Bulgaria is outside the high vacation season (July-August) in order to avoid heavier road traffic and high temperatures. Spring and autumn months (April-June and September-October) are most suitable to visit Bulgaria’s wineries.
Infrastructure
The road system has been lacking in maintenance for many years but all the wineries on our itineraries are safely accessible by coach or minibus.
Currency
The Bulgarian lev (BGN) is pegged to the euro by a currency board at the rate of 1 EUR = 1.95583 BGN. One lev has 100 stotinki. Banknotes are of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 leva. Coins come in 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 stotinki and 1 lev.
Safety
Bulgaria is a generally safe country by Western standards. Common sense precautions are, of course, valid here too, e.g. avoid going alone in dark streets in the cities, do not display money bag at public places etc.
Electricity
Bulgarian wineries use 220 volts AC and round two-pin plugs, so does the rest of the country.
